Obituary
CAMPEAU, Marcel
1948 – 2021
Mr. Marcel Joseph Campeau, beloved husband of Mrs. Denise Campeau of Hayter, Alberta passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the age of 73 years. Marcel was born on March 24, 1948 at Alexandria, Ontario. He was the eldest child of four born to George and Thérèse Campeau. Marcel was raised and lived in the family home until he married his loving wife, Denise in 1968. Marcel and Denise just celebrated their fifty-third Wedding Anniversary on April 15, 2021. They made their first home in Sudbury, Ontario; where Marcel worked the mines for a few months. The couple returned to Alexandria, where he began to work at the Carnation Milk Plant. He also worked other jobs for a while and then became a welder. In 1969, their first child, Brigitte was born, followed by Daniel in 1973, Marie in 1974, and Cherrylene in 1977. Marcel was always on a quest, and had an adventurous, and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1977, he decided to pursue work ‘out west’. He drove his van out and arrived in Banff, with a quarter to his name. Marcel took on a few jobs; driving taxi, welding, Gas Station Attendant and auto body work. Years later, he said he enjoyed getting to visit with people from all around the world.
He wanted to be a welder and was able to find his first big job in Nisku, Alberta. In 1980, Marcel was able to find a home in Beaumont, and move his family out to be with him. The family remained in Beaumont for three years. This is where he learned to play the guitar and many have been entertained by his music and talents. We have endless memories of him playing and singing for us. In 1984, Marcel decided to chase the rigs; so – on to Provost the family moved, and eventually to Hayter; where he started his own Welding business. He enjoyed his work, and he was an extremely hard and dedicated worker. For a brief time in 1986, when the oil crashed, the family went back east, but the west kept calling him back. He returned to Hayter in 1989 and never looked back. Marcel loved it here and continued his work as a welder, until he rolled his truck and sustained neck injuries in 1993. He welded some after but not as much. He also worked dispatching for Sam’s Trucking for many years. Marcel enjoyed Auto Body work and started a little International Truck collection. He restored a few vehicles along the way and was proudest of the ’69 Ford Fairlane he rebuilt with Daniel, and his 1956 Short Box International. He enjoyed anything that was new and alternative. Marcel trained in Texas to build Monolithic Dome Houses and Structures; and he had plans for hydrogen generators and alternatives for growing gardens. He always had a passion for nature and holistic health, and this really came out in his later years. He wanted to help people and researched all he could about herbs and healing. Eventually, this led to him starting his Naturals Company; where he made magnesium sprays, lotions and other potions. His little business brought him to many Farmer’s Markets, and he made many new friends. Over and above all things in this world, Marcel cared for his people. He went out of his way to make sure family and friends were looked after. If any of us were ill, all we had to do was call and he would arrive with a potion. If we were in need, he did everything in his power to help. He had a heart for the hurting and the lonely; and was always up for a conversation, no matter who. Marcel took in, and helped, many. This is clear in the many messages that have poured in since his passing. He had a charm and a smile that resonated with those around him. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a blessing to him; and he beamed when he spoke of them, and loved being a Pépère. They all loved dancing, as he played his songs for them. Marcel was a true blessing to know and we are so very proud of him and the legacy he has left us all. Marcel will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Denise of Hayter, Alberta and his daughter, Brigitte (Barry) of Lloydminster, and their children, Savannah (Michael Muzichuk); Caleb (Tamara Hall) and his great grandchildren, Alexandria, Piperr, Declan and Marcel; Cassidy (Ryan Winterhalt) and great grandchild, Rosalee; Natasha; Avigail; Georgia and Evanee; his son, Daniel (Jennifer Hauberg) and their children, Taylor (Rylan), Olivia, Ella and Noah; and his daughter, Cherrylene Jones (Dana) and their children, Seamus, Dexter and Kingston. He will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Claude Campeau (Madelaine) and their children, Heidi, Angela, Caroline, Katrina and Nicholas; Denise Gibbs (Richard) and their children, Eric and Christopher and Jaques Campeau (Maureen) and their children, Paul and April. Marcel was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Marie.
A Private Family Service will be held.
