Cecilia’s Obituary
The family of the late Cecilia Radchuk announce her passing at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on April 17, 2021, at the age of 78 years.
Cecilia Annette was born to Paul and Frances Perrick (nee Rudnisky) on October 28, 1942 in the Swan Plain district, SK. She grew up on the family farm north of Swan Plain, where she attended school at Big Horn. She remembered walking to school bare foot through the Big Horn River. After the Big Horn school closed, she attended Swan Plain School for a few years. After quitting school in grade 8, she decided to stay home and work on the family farm. She often recalled keeping the barn clean and milking 12 cows. In addition to helping at the farm, Cecilia would babysit for numerous families in the area.
One weekend she met John Radchuk at a dance at Swan Plain Hall. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1963. After they married, they moved and started their own family farm south east of Swan Plain. They operated a mixed farm together and eventually were blessed with four children: Richard, Randy, Phyllis, and Ronald.
Cecilia had several large gardens and raised chickens, milk cows, horses, and numerous cats and dogs. She could always be found in the garden or tending to her flower beds. She hated being stuck indoors, but could be found making perogies, beetniks, cabbage rolls and head cheese. As well, she did hundreds of jars of canning in the fall. Cecilia had a strong work ethic that she passed on to her kids. If work needed to be done, it got done!
Aside from the work she did, she loved singing, playing cards, and doing jigsaw puzzles. In 1987, she lost her right arm in a grain auger accident, but that did not slow her down. The day she got back from the hospital, she was out digging potatoes. She never wanted anyone to feel sorry for her. In the late 90’s, when John’s mobility was declining, she devoted herself to caring for her husband until her passing. Even though she was “retired” she continued with her gardens and flowers. She could be found outside pulling weeds or playing and running around with her grandsons. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cecilia was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Frances Perrick; sisters, Phyllis (in infancy) and Evangeline Burym; brothers, Darold Perrick and Allan Perrick; granddaughter, Julie Radchuk; brothers-in-law: Ben Radchuk, Bill Radchuk, Pete Radchuk, Peko Chorney, Phillip Kwiatkowski, and Ed Mazur; sisters-in-law: Annie Kwiatkowski, Stella Mazur, and Nellie Broza; and nephews: Fred Burym, Patrick Burym, Brian Burym, Gordon Mazur, and Ken Boitson; and great-nephew, Ryan Boitson.
