Obituary for
Charles Michael « Mike » Burtch
Charles “Michael” Burtch
It is with great sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of Charles “Michael” Burtch at his home on April 6, 2021, in his 67th year. Known to family and friends as “Mike”, he leaves behind his loving partner and soulmate of 33 years, Lise Appleby.
Mike is survived by his sister Patricia (Dan), nephew Michael and niece Kate; his youngest son Tyler (Tina) and granddaughter Kristen; and his blended family; step-daughter Denise and step-granddaughter Lydia and Lise’s large extended family. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” and Frances Burtch, and his eldest son, Trevor, who is survived by his partner Sheri-Lee and his children, Ash-Lee and Jake.
Prior to his retirement in 2019, Mike worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway in Canal Operations for 40 years. Mike grew up on Old #8 Highway, Niagara-on-the-Lake and engaged in all of his father’s and mother’s successful entrepreneurial endeavours including land farming, mink farming, and antique business to name a few. Mike was a man of many talents and there was nothing that he couldn’t fix, build or figure out. If he had an idea he brought it to life. He loved spending time in the park-like atmosphere and gardens he and his partner created and tended through the years.
As per Mike’s wishes there will be no service and cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If so desired, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Kindness is a gift that everyone can afford to give.
