SHERRY LEE BROOKS (née Ully), our Greemum, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit, after a long battle with a rare, untreatable Sarcoma Cancer, at the age of 70 years.
Sherry is survived by her husband Dale, daughter Dawneen (Colin) Cartwright and their children Blake and Chloe, daughter Shawna (Shawn) Daelynn and their children Jared and Jaxson and daughter Darcy (Brian) McKellar and their children Kennedy and Jordan; brothers: Harry (Beverly), Milton (Bonnie), Aubrey (June) and baby brother Keith (Cindy) Ully as well as special aunt Marie Ully and many in-laws, cousins nieces and nephews. Cousin Alice Dueck was a sister to Sherry and they could really chat up a storm. Whenever they got together, you had to keep an eye on them.
She was predeceased by her parents Reinhold and Muriel Ully, in-laws John and Joan Brooks, sister-in-law Susan Labuhn and nephew Mark Brooks.
Her grandchildren lovingly called her Greemum. She loved them so much, never missing a birthday or special occasion. She was the glue that held the family together. Family came first.
Sherry was born in Lethbridge, but grew up on the family farm south east of Foremost and at the family’s ranch « Big Ranch » in Elk Valley, BC. She enjoyed horseback riding in her early years on her favourite horse, Buck. When we lived in Fort McMurray, it reminded her of the mountains which she dearly loved.
Sherry was just a nice person to be around as well as a fantastic cook, passing along her skills and special recipes to her three daughters.
Sherry enjoyed countless years with family at Blaine Lake, near Kalispell, MT. You could always find her toasting marshmallows on an open fire. Once , she got her three life jackets on (just kidding). She liked to go out into the lake and swim near the boat. She would spot the kids as they skiied or tubed behind the boat.
She absolutely enjoyed going away on trips. It did not matter if it was Castle Falls, or Hawaii, she was always ready for the next big adventure at the slightest suggestion. She was in the truck with packed bags before i knew we were leaving. The top of her list was visiting her daughters and grandchildren in Westlock and Fort McMurray.
On her 70th birthday, girlfriends Faye, Bev, Val, Lois, Karen and Barb (missing Laney) did a drive-by and then sang happy birthday to her outside our front window. It was soul touching as this rowdy gang have been friends forever.
Luckily, Sherry and Dale had over 53 years together and lived a life filled with love, laughter and grace. Loved and profoundly missed does not cut it.
Special thanks to Dr. Vanderpol, Dr. Smuts (you were always a breath of fresh air) and B.J. for their help on Sherry’s journey and especially the incredible nurses in Palliative care, you are the best. Sherry’s faith in God was strong and she made it clear to family and friends that she would see them in heaven.
At Sherry’s request, no funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Sherry, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Health Centre Palliative Care Unit (covenantfoundation.ca/donate) or to a charity of your choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Brooks Sherry Lee October 16 1950..
