In loving memory of Wilbert Spencer, who passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021 at Pioneer Manor, at the age of 97, surrounded by family. Wilbert is survived by his son Tim, daughter-in-law Diane, grandson Jesse, daughter Chantal Cyr, his brothers Robert (Anna) and Roger (Pauline), as well as his loving companion and caregiver for the past 15 years, Eileen. Fondly remembered by step-grandchildren Doug Ransom, Donna Ransom, Lana Thompson, Cheryl Lagace, Kyla Cotnam, brothers-in-law Marcel Rajotte and Gord Fuller, sisters-in-law Bea and Jeannine, many nieces, nephews and the Winn family. Wilbert is predeceased by wives Simone Caby and Florence Landriault, brothers Aldege (Maria), Leonard, Lionel, Ron, Andy, infant Henry, sisters Audrey Rajotte, Jeanette Fuller, Eveline Brady and stepdaughter Shirley Ransom. Born and raised in Coniston, Wilbert was proud to join the Army at 17 years old, went overseas, participated in the invasion of France in Normandy and was on Juno Beach on D-Day June 6/44. Upon his return from the war, Wilbert worked at Inco as an electrician, retired at 54, and went to art school for 6 years, leading to his creations of beautiful scenery paintings for his family and friends. In his younger days, he coached kids’ hockey in Coniston, was active in the Royal Canadian Legions (Coniston and Lockerby). He was also an active member of the Fred Vincent branch of War Pensioners in Sudbury. He had many stories to tell about his army days. With grateful thanks to all of the PSWs and staff at the Pioneer Manor. There will be no visitation, arrangements entrusted to the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, Sudbury.
