It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Miriam Symes of Fortune announce her passing at the Dr. S. Beckley Health Centre, Saturday, April 3rd, 2021 at the age of 84.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her son, Stanley Symes (Shelly) of Fortune; daughters, Mildred Parsons (Paddy) of Fortune, Eileen Strickland (Howard) of Point May and Linda Dinn (Craig) of Fortune; sisters, Margaret Wells (Jerry) of Bridgewater, NS & Pearl Skinner (Doug) of Fortune; brother-in-law, Arthur Symes (Elizabeth) of Fortune; 7 grandchildren, Cynthia Slaney (Duane), Theresa Strickland, Patrick Parsons Jr. (Anita), Derrick Parsons, Bradley Symes (Amanda), Mackenzie Dinn and Carter Dinn; 8 great-grandchildren, Christina Pye, Jonah Slaney, Kelsey Strickland, Bre-Ann Thorkelson, Logan Thorkelson, Bridget, Callie & Oaklynn; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Kate Pye & Beth Pye; plus a large circle of relatives and friends.
Miriam was pre-deceased by her husband, Stanley Symes; parents, William & Minnie Marks; grandson, Matthew Symes; brothers & sisters-in-law, Nathan Marks (Mary) & Seaward Marks (Rose); sisters & brothers-in-law, Janet Symes (Edwin) & Lucy Symes (Jack).
The Symes Family will accept visitors at Wiseman’s Funeral Home in Fortune on Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm and again on Sunday, April 4, 2021 from 2:00pm – 9:00pm.
In order to maintain social distancing and to follow the public health advisory of COVID 19, a walk through visitation will take place with a maximum of 20 people at any one time is permitted. Everyone is asked to sign the contact tracing sheet upon entering the building and masks are required. Please note that there is no food or beverages permitted in the building.
A funeral service will be held at the All Saints Anglican Church in Fortune on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 2:00pm, with interment to follow at the All Saints Anglican Cemetery in Fortune.
In Miriam’s memory donations may be made to the All Saints Anglican Cemetery Fund, Fortune, or flowers gratefully accepted.
The Symes Family would like to thank her home care workers, past and present. Especially, Lorraine Douglas who became like family and always brightened up her day. And we can’t forget her current part-time worker, Mhairi Barry. Thank you so much for your care of our Mom.
