Joyce Vallee 1936 2021

Obituary of Joyce Vallee
Joyce was born on either March 27 or 28th in 1936 depending on whether you asked her mother or father. Though she was known as Joyce or Joy, she was technically Kathleen due to an “error” written on her birth registration by her father. She was born the second of four children, and the only girl to Edward and Irene Walker (nee Maw) in Naicam, SK and raised in Quill Lake. She is predeceased by her parents, eldest brother, Norman; and cousins, Jimmy and Gordon (Eileen) Clunie. She leaves behind: her brothers, Robert (Anne) and Gerald (Linda); children, David Morrison (Daniel Charette), Frank (Marlen) Morrison, Kenneth (Jackie) Morrison, and Carla (Paul) Mysko; grandchildren, Aaron, Amanda (Robert), Briana (Neil), Teagan, Noah, Sydney, Casandra (Emiliano), Marlene (Jean-Paul), Allison (Everett), Andrew (Carly); great-grandchildren, Hayden, Greysen, Hallie, Hannah, Victoria, Valeria, and Roman; cousin, Faye (Vic) Goos; and many friends and second cousins.
Her work life began as a helper in her father’s employ cleaning the pool hall and barber shop her family operated. Her cheerful nature and good work ethic at such a young age (grade 8) led her to work in the local café in Quill Lake, a time she spoke of fondly where she worked for a woman that was difficult but rewarding. She realized early that she was a caregiver and worked in the hospital in Quill Lake for a time before leaving to study lab technician work in Moose Jaw after grade 10; there she got married and started a family. While in Moose Jaw she sewed pockets in trousers to support her way through her learning at the hospital. When she lived overseas she helped run the canteen at the air force base in Grostenquin, and she became an Optician and co-managed an optical store in Abbotsford, and then completed her Certified Nurse Assistant diploma in Saskatoon where she worked as a C.N.A. for Stensrud Lodge from 1978-1991 and with Home Care for some years after. She lived many places: Bagotville and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, QC; Whitehorse, YT; Grostenquin, France; Ottawa and CFB Borden, ON; Comox, Delta, Ladner, and Abbotsford, BC; Quill Lake, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Christopher Lake, Prince Albert, and Melfort, SK.
Joyce loved to travel and had a particular love for Mexico. She had a terrific sense of humour and was the life of any social gathering. She enjoyed being busy and spent much time as the planner and hub of family gatherings and celebrations, volunteering or leading Cub Scouts, Beavers, CGIT, Brownies, Girl Guides, on bowling teams, billiards teams, curling teams, a member of the Elks Lodge, a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, she was a voted executive with SGEU union during her time employed as a Certified Nurse Assistant, and she was the instigator of Saskatchewan Roughrider view parties and social get-togethers at Luther Tower where she lived in her final years. Joyce loved to attend the theatre, loved musicals, and loved to attend musical performances in the stylings of Elvis, country, swing, and most things with a fun and happy beat that she could dance to – because she loved to dance and did it very well! If there was an opportunity to enjoy time spent with family and friends having a good laugh, and possibly a nice glass of wine or a rum and diet Coke, she could be found taking in every moment joyfully.
The funeral for Joyce Vallee will be held Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Saskatoon Funeral Home and is closed to all but invited immediate family. Virtual viewing of the service is available on Joyce’s tribute page at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com where you may also leave condolences.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Luthercare Foundation/Tower and will be directed toward the social activities for the residents of Luther Tower, something which Joyce enjoyed immensely (email dmittelholtz@luthercare.com).
