Bernard’s Obituary
Bernard Eugene Williams, 71, of West Green Harbour, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2021, at Roseway Hospital, Shelburne. Bernard was born on August 30th, 1949 to Flora Kathleen and Wilfred C. Williams of Little Harbour, Nova Scotia. Bernard was predeceased by his parents Kathleen and Wilfred, his brother-in-law, Charlie Chant, sister-in-law Edith (Dave) Garrigan, sister-in-law Elaine (Clare) Williams, brother-in-law Nathaniel Neil, and his beloved wife, Peggy. He is survived by his daughters, Tracey (David) Williams, Danine (Jason) Lyle; his sisters, Darlene Chant and Mary Lee (Brian) Burhoe; grandchildren Corbin, Parker, Madison and Keira. Also survived by brother-in-law James Neil, brother-in-law David “Gord” (Shirley) Neil, sister-in-law Rebecca Neil (David Boughner), and sister-in-law Sylvia Neil.
Bernard grew up in Little Harbour with his parents and two sisters. After graduating from Lockeport High School, where he met his future wife, Peggy Neil, he went on to study electronics at Shelburne Vocational School. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed several careers from electronic repair services to business owner, fish plant worker, tugboat driver, and electrician technician, with much of his employment being with Shelburne Marine.
Bernard settled in West Green Harbour, near Peggy’s family, building his home with help from family and friends. He lived his life there providing for his family.
In his spare time, Bernard enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and camping. He also enjoyed building things with his hands, tinkering with, or repairing something, and he was always there to help anyone in need. He was playful and youthful enjoying things like building model remote control planes, and handmade kites to fly with his daughters and later with grandchildren. Bernard was so creative and innovative and was most proud of his hand-crafted projects including self designed model sailing and fishing boats, and his latest project, self-designed replica’s of Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse.
He raised his daughters with great love, kindness and undivided attention. He loved Peggy dearly, and taking care of her at the end of her life was a testament to his love and devotion.
A memorial service will take place at H.M. Huskilsons Funeral Home, Shelburne on Saturday March 27th, at 2:00 pm with Shirley Shot officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to V.O.N., Salvation Army or Hope for Wildlife. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
