Obituary of Margaret « Margie » Boone, Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious Mother, Margaret “Margie” (MacKenzie) Boone on March 8, 2021 at the Seaview Manor Home For Special Care, Glace Bay, NS, with her family by her side.
Born March 14, 1935, Bridgeport NS, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Tobin) MacKenzie.
Margie was a stay at home wife and mother who worked long and hard days to care for and create a loving and comfortable home for her husband, children, and father-in-law. A strong independent woman, Margie could go from cooking, cleaning, and child rearing to carrying heavy buckets of coal indoors to tend the household fires. Margie had a very kind, loving, and generous heart and was always known for lending a helping hand when needed especially in preparing many plates of sandwiches and sweets for family, friends, and community events.
Margie was a pillar in the AA Society for over 25 years where she volunteered numerous hours on organizing round ups, manning the crisis line, and attending meetings. Margie was happy to give back and help whenever possible; sometimes in the wee hours of the morning and for however long necessary.
Margie’s faith was strong. She was a life long member of St. John’s Parish, New Aberdeen, an avid church goer, and a member of the church choir. Margie comforted the ill and dying and sat at many bedsides during her time with Home Care. Margie loved giving and receiving greeting cards and prided herself on her beautiful penmanship and meticulous spelling and also enjoyed following current news events. Margie supported the community Crime Stoppers and fashioned herself as a friendly neighbourhood watchdog. Margie enjoyed watching NHL games and was often heard cheering loudly from her favourite living room chair. Margie was a gentle and caring person who treated people with dignity and respect. She will be sadly missed by her family and many countless friends.
Margie was predeceased by her loving husband, Justin Boone, adored son Paul, siblings Marjorie McNeil, Betty Postlewaite, Annie Shaughnessy, Alex MacKenzie, Neil MacKenzie, Josie Devision, and Anita McKay.
Margie is survived by her children, Joe Tutty, Sharon Williamson, Darlene Boone (Mike Williams), Sheldon Boone (Marta), Maureen Boone, and Mary Elizabeth Boone (David King), daughter-in-law Ann Boone, grandchildren Tara, Justine, Colin, Stephen, Lauren, Chantel, and Rachael, great grandson Jace, many nieces and nephews.
In honouring Margie’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay
on Friday, July 30th, 2021 at 10 am. Interment in the parish cemetery. Fr.Duaine Devereaux officiating.
