It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our precious wife, mother, sister and aunt, Louise Doreen Caputo (Wandler) who passed away in Trail on February 27, 2021 with her family by her side.
Louise was born in Kimberley, BC on July 18, 1937 to Emily and Tom Wandler, the second of 8 children. The family moved to Trail in 1940 where Louise grew up, met and married Kenny. Louise was predeceased by a baby brother Eugene, her parents Emily and Tom Wandler, in-laws Nellie and Willie Caputo, oldest sister Joan Jacobson, sister-in-law Ursula Wandler, brothers-in-law Ken Savage and Ron Jacobson. She is survived by her husband of sixty four years, Kenny, her son Perry (Kristie), siblings Sheila Mazeppa (Zeke), Yvonne Savage, Gary Wandler (Deborah), Judy Gilbank (Ken) Deb Wandler (Al Skakun), brother-in-law Cliff Caputo (Yvonne) 16 nieces and nephews, 27 great-nieces and nephews and 8 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Louise began her working career in Moffatts, spent the early years of her marriage working in Eatons and went on to do bookkeeping for T.Wandler Ltd, and Banda Construction.
Louise loved crafting, spending many hours doing crewel work, crocheting and other crafts. Many of her nieces and nephews along with her son were the recipients of her famous crocheted Christmas stockings, even a couple of her great-great-nephews received them in recent years. Louise donated funds from the sale of her beautifully crafted, plastic canvas doll house to the Trail Hospital.
She was an incredible cook and baker who mastered not only the Russian/German recipes of her mother Emily but also the art of Italian cooking from her mother-in-law Nellie. We will all miss her special baking and cooking at Christmas – especially the ravioli Kenny so proudly “forked”. Louise generously shared her baking with family and neighbours.
Louise loved to visit with friends on her weekly trips to the grocery store where Kenny patiently waited at the front for her to finish. For many years she attended both senior and junior Smoke Eater games with Kenny and they were fortunate enough to travel – to Europe with the 61 Smokies and later to Japan with the senior team. They enjoyed many trips made to visit family and friends throughout the years.
Louise will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Kenny and their son Perry who was her pride and joy, and all of her family and friends. She was a generous, loving and thoughtful soul.
A celebration of Louise’s life will be held at a later date. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
