It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Lewis Ralph Hounsell announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Friday, January 1, 2021, at the age of 83 years. In his early working career, Lewis was a devoted general manager for Ayers & Sons in St. John’s, Wabush and Corner Brook. He also worked at Wabush Mines, Smith’s Home Hardware in St. John’s and Cohen’s Ltd. in Corner Brook. Lewis served for many years as Deputy Sheriff at Supreme Court in Corner Brook and as a process server for many law firms and companies within and outside of the Province. He especially enjoyed working in a courtroom, dealing with judges, lawyers, accused persons and jurors. He displayed professionalism, courtesy and respect in dealing with all people he met in the course of his duties. As to his role as a process server, he would ensure that documents were served no matter how difficult the challenge of finding the intended recipient. He continued to act as a process server right up to the last months before his passing. His work meant a great deal to him and that sentiment showed in the way he performed his duties. Lewis was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 48 years, following through the years of reaching the level of becoming a Shriner of the Mazol Temple. Lewis leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his soul mate of 27 years, Nola Wells. His sons: Craig (Trisha), Christopher (Heidi); 2 precious grandchildren: Brodie and Sierra. 4 step sons: Morris (Trudy), Bill (June), Craig (Debbie), Doug (Marlene). 2 stepdaughters: Bernetta Colbourne (Aubrey), Kitty Wells and a large circle of nieces, nephews and numerous wonderful friends to many to mention. Lewis was predeceased by his parents: Stewart & Lydia Hounsell; sisters: Ruby Gould and Dorothy Seaward; brothers: Bruce Hounsell, John Hounsell, Clyde Hounsell and stepson Rick Wells. At Lewis’s request, there will be a private family viewing at Country Haven on Tuesday, Jan 5, 2021, and a funeral service will be held from St. Michael and All Angels on Wednesday, Jan 6, 2021, with the Venerable Ed King officiating. Cremation will take place and the interment will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are accepted, or memorial donations in memory of Lewis can be made to the Shiners Mazol Temple.
God’s Garden
God looked around His garden and He found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest,
God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never get well here on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be Thine”.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone,
For a part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
