George Thomas Hawrys February 19th 2021

George Hawrys passed away peacefully Friday, February 19, 2021 at Piccadilly Seniors Residence in Salmon Arm B.C. at the age of 93. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Nora (nee Bell), his daughter Debbie Stickland (Ron), his sons Ken (Lori), and Rick (Shelley), 6 grandchildren, Matt Stickland (Nincie),Geordan Stickland (Emily), Katie Wallace (Layton), Zoe Hawrys (Tyler), Jenelle Hawrys, Brett Hawrys, and 2 great grandchildren, Adilyn and Asher Stickland, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents Michael and Anna (nee Borys), his sister Mary Jablonsky, his brothers Tony, Joseph, Alex, Bert, and Michael.
George was born in Enderby Hospital and lived most of his life on the family farm in Grindrod. He enjoyed a varied work career. He began working at age 14 and worked at NOCA and Fruit Union in Vernon. George worked in Trail but missed the North Okanagan and returned to work in hardware stores in Vernon and Enderby. He purchased and operated a dump truck and enjoyed working on various local roadways and bridges with it. After he sold his truck he went into merchandising for 25 years and managed the Hardware, Building Supply and Farm Dept. of the Mainline Co-op in Salmon Arm. George later worked as a Building Inspector and then as Clerk of Works for the construction of Armstrong Pleasant Valley Manor and Enderby Parkview place. He very much enjoyed farming the family farms in Armstrong and Grindrod, especially when his grandsons worked with him. George volunteered on community boards and projects as helping others and his community was important to him. He so enjoyed his most important job of providing a very good life for his children. George spent his spare time making sawdust in his workshop and also “fixing » (all kinds of things for family and friends). He enjoyed being in the workshop with his sons, son in law, and grandkids. He was very active all his life, as a young guy playing ball with the Grindrod Elks, cross country skiing, golfing and playing with grandkids. George and Nora travelled to many places and also enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family. They were very fortunate to have very special neighbours and lifelong friends in the community. George enjoyed being with family and loved having his sister, his brothers and their families visit. He felt very blessed to live in this beautiful area and to have his “most wonderful grandkids » growing up close to Nora and him. He was so very proud of his greatest accomplishment, “his family”. George’s family want to thank Dr. Aitchison and the staff at Piccadilly Seniors Residence for their care and kindness.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de George Thomas Hawrys February 19th 2021..
