Obituary
With deep sadness the family of Clara Schur of Endeavour beloved wife of the Late Morris Schur passed away on February 10, 2021. Clara was ninety-three years of age.
Clara was born on February 5, 1928 to Charles and Elizabeth Gabrielson on the family farm in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Along with seven siblings, she grew up helping with farm chores and walked two miles to the country school. After graduating from Rosthern High School, she attended Teacher’s College in Saskatoon. She taught in elementary schools in Saskatchewan for 22 years. While teaching in Preeceville, she met Morris Schur of Endeavour. They were married on July 18, 1955 and made their home in Endeavour. She attended the St. James Anglican Church in Endeavour since 1955 and was the church organist for 40 years.
Even while she worked full-time as a teacher, she still found time to bake bread and pies on a regular basis. She spent the summer tending a garden from which she canned much of the produce.
She was very involved in the community. One of her highlights was serving on the Endeavour Homecoming committee to commemorate the village’s 60th anniversary. Clara served on the History book committee as an editor helping compile the more than 500 page book, ‘Past Endeavours’.
She was very active in the Golden Age Club, enjoying weekly card games and luncheons with the local seniors.
Being a school reacher, she was known for her lists, book summaries and essays. She was an avid reader who read through the Bible from cover to cover 32 times in her life.
Clara is predeceased by her parents and 6 siblings as well as her husband of 59 years, Morris. Left to mourn her passing is her sister Alice (Al) Akins of Nanaimo, her son Lyle of Endeavour and daughter Lenore of Kelowna. She is also survived by her grandsons, Corey, Daniel, Stephen and Chris (Rebecca) Hendricks of Kelowna and 3 great grandchildren. She was well loved and will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and their families.
A memorial service is planned for May 22, 2021 in Endeavour with internment to follow in the Schur Cemetery.
Memorials in Memory of Clara may be made to St. James Anglican Church Endeavour as Gifts of Remembrance.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
