Leo Davey passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Concordia Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 89 years with his wife Lorraine by his side.
Leo was born July 7, 1931 in Happy Lake, Manitoba, Shell River Municipality. Leo grew up in Happy Lake and San Clara Manitoba, attending Ottoburne School.
In the early 1950’s, Leo began work in the nickel mines in Lynn Lake, Thompson, Flin Flon and Snow Lake, Manitoba; Elliot Lake, Sudbury, Ontario and Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. Leo’s mining career lasted for 40 years.
On March 10, 1972, Leo married Lorraine Burwash. Together Lorraine and Leo had a successful taxi business n Flin Flon Manitoba and hotel/post office business in Waldron Saskatchewan.
Leo is survived by his wife Lorraine of 48 years, children, Gary Davey, Kim (Keith) Amundsen, Rhonda (Larry) Desorcy, Joanne Davis and step daughter Jackie (Kal) Brown.
Leo is also survived by his sisters Clara Brazeau, Martha (Kelly) Lachance, Elaine Matiation, brothers-in-law, Geoff Burton and Lawrence McGinnis; 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by his son Grant Davey, grandson Justin Davey, parents Vitaline and Henry Davey, brothers Gordon (sister-in-law Rene), Lou Burton, Myrna Davey and Anne McGinnis.
The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Place for your care during Leo’s stay. A sincere thank you to Leo’s nurses: Carol, Renee, Cathy, Danielle, Nenita and Danuta who took such good care of him and for your support in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Leo’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 – 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2.
A private family service has taken place with cremation to follow. Interment will be at a later date in Togo, Saskatchewan.
