Alfred Thomas Shaw, Jr.
1950-2021
Alfred Thomas Shaw, Jr. – 71, Truro, passed away
peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Alfred
Sr. and Helen (Hanes) Shaw.
Alfie was a proud, hard-working man who dedicated most of his
life to his art, landscaping. He worked throughout Truro and Pictou
County for over four decades with Coupar’s Nursery Limited and then
with Justaart Landscaping Services. Alfred’s work can still be admired
today through many properties and businesses in the area. He was proud
to drive the big yellow trucks, a Coupar’s signature, whether
landscaping in the spring and summer or plowing all
winter.
Aside from Coupar’s and Justaart, he also worked with Pettis
Plumbing and Drain Cleaning and Treaty Entertainment to name a few;
Alfred loved the idea of retiring so much he did so six
times!
Alfred is survived by his children, Bonnie (Todd) Mills,
Truro Heights; Nick (Tanya) Shaw, Amherst; Thomas Wade (Fay) Shaw,
Woodstock, New Brunswick; Melissa (Carl) White, Oromocto, New
Brunswick; Scott Shaw, Halifax; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Shirley
Isenor, Truro; Mary (Dennis) Fraser, Truro; brother, Harry (Evelyn)
Shaw, Truro. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his
sisters, Elizabeth Anne Barnaby, Pauline « Poppy, Polly »
Shaw; brothers, Richard (Emily) Shaw, William (Evelyn) Shaw, George
Arthur Shaw; brother-in-law, Earl Isenor.
In his last days he was comforted by many visitors, and of
course, cared for by the incredible staff of Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Unit 3E and Palliative Care teams.
Thank you to Bonnie; you are a great daughter, mother and big
sister who was present for Alfred when we needed you the
most.
A special thanks to Beatrice. Despite a time of separation in
their marriage, she was there by his side to comfort, humour and care
for him in his last days. For every hand held or spoonful of Jell-O,
we are forever grateful.
To Ron Meech of Meech Holdings; your efforts in caring for
our father and tending to his needs went far beyond the call of duty
as landlord. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, service and interment at Robie
Street Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro, will be held at a later date
when we are able to travel and be together.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alfred’s memory to
IWK Health Centre Foundation or Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC) are
welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner
