Obituary of Catherine « Kaye » McInnis, R.N. Glace Bay
It is with profound sadness that we announce that passing of our mother Catherine “Kaye” McInnis on February 1st, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Kaye was born on January 6, 1934 in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland and Labrador to the late William and Mabel (Burte) Burton.
After her family moved to Glace Bay in 1949, she attended Morrison Glace Bay High School, and was a graduate of the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She went on to be a nursing supervisor at the GBGH until her retirement in 1991.
As a nurse, Kaye went above and beyond to help her patients most of whom became her lifelong friends. She never put herself first at any time, and helping others was something that brought her great joy throughout her life and remarkable nursing career.
Mom’s ties to her faith were very strong and St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Glace Bay was always a big part of her life where she also served as a eucharistic minister.
Kaye is survived by her husband, Joe, Glace Bay, sons, Bill, Russell, Ont., Joe (Johanne), Ottawa, Tim, Glace Bay, and Glen (Christine), Ottawa and her brother, Brent Burton (Margie), Ingersol, Ont.
She also leaves behind her 7 grandchildren, (Bobby, Kelly, Chris, Kirstynn, Erin, Ian and Helene) and 5 great grandchildren, (Sophie, Renee, Alyssa, Kylen and Kayden).
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother John, and sister Edith (Kayo Leemet), St. Catharines, Ont.
Mom never had a shortage of friends, and she cherished each and every one of them. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank Dr. Carol Boutilier, Dr. Leah Keating, and the nursing staff of 3 West at the Glace Bay Hospital for their compassion and excellent care during her illness.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
