Obituary of Charles Gordon Anthony
It is with great sadness to announce the death of Charles “Gordon” Anthony on December 27, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. Gordon was born on Campobello Island in Wilson’s Beach NB on September 10, 1938. He was the son of the late Howard and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Fletcher) Anthony.
Gordon will be sadly missed by his daughters, Tina (Paul) O’Neill and Kelly Anthony (Mike) of Saint John. His granddaughters Taylor and Camryn O’Neill. Also, his dog Riley who was his buddy.
Survived by his sisters Ruth Beney of Pennfield NB, Lillian Justason of Nerepis NB, and Mary (Stephen) Boyd of Pennfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents Gordon was predeceased by his wife Rose (Goldsworthy) Anthony, sisters Merle McPherson, Edith Johnson, Laura Wilcox, and Sertha Munn; brothers Wes, Millidge, Waistill, Willard, Ronald, Graeme, James, and Ralph Anthony.
In 2003 Gordon retired from Atlantic Towing and Kent Lines after 45 years of employment. After his retirement, Gordon enjoyed spending time in his workshop building lighthouses, wishing wells, and planters boxers. Gordon is famous for his lighthouses that can be seen all over New Brunswick and even into Ontario and Maine.
In his later years Gordon enjoyed going for drives with his nephew Dougie Wilcox on the weekends and having Tim’s coffee with his buddy Richard. Gordon was a very friendly and generous man. He had a great sense of humour and loved teasing and making people laugh. He will be missed deeply by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Interment will take place in the spring, in Penfield Rural Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption.
