Obituary
On Friday, December 24 Kataryna Tworynska Wojcik a beloved Mother, Great Grandmother, Grandmother and Aunt died at the age of 96 at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital surrounded by her daughters Dora, Mary, Irene and Helen.
Kataryna, daughter of Jurko and Anna Tworynska was born on January 6, 1925 in the Ukraine. It was a very tumultuous time in the Ukraine and Europe and it had a great effect on creating a strong and spirited Kataryna.
In 1941 At the age of 16, she left the Ukraine with not a penny in her pocket and only the clothes on her back.
Her journey ended in Germany and as a refugee she was able to get work on a farm which was very hard work.
In 1945 she met Anton Wojcik and was married in the Registrar’s Office in Landau, Germany. From then on they lived in Displaced Persons Camps until Kataryna was able to locate her brother Myhailo in Canada who sponsored her and on June 23, 1950 she arrived in Canada with her family.
Family and maintaining Ukrainian traditions was her greatest joy. Every January 6th on her birthday and on Ukrainian Easter she prepared the traditional Ukrainian feasts for her family and her Brother Myhailo’s family.
Kataryna never forgot her brothers and sister and their families who remained in the Ukraine. Every Easter and Christmas she made sure she sent them help from her Pension.
As we gather in memory of Kataryna so that we may acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift her life has to us and the pain her passing brings. In sharing the joy and pain together today may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.
A funeral service is being held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the All Saints of Ukraine Chapel at the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery.
We must continue to maintain physical distancing, the wearing of masks and may not allow more than 35 guests in attendance at the funeral service.
