Brian’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Brian Hatcher, 84, announce his peaceful passing on December 26, 2021 at Port aux Basques with his family at his side. Born in Rose Blanche, Brian was the youngest of Stanley and Alice Hatcher’s six children.
Brian is survived by his wife Joyce (Simms) Hatcher of 51 years, daughter Wendy (Paul) Graham, grandchildren Andrew and Emily Graham and sister Rosina Hatcher Burry. He is also survived by nieces Roberta Butler, Edith Osmond, Diane Herritt, nephews Robert and Roger Hatcher, brother-in-law Ross (Lorna) Simms, sisters-in-law Isabel (Pleman) Coffin and Margaret Ford.
He was predeceased by his father Stanley in 1975 and mother Alice (nee Hatcher) in 1985 and his father and mother-in-law Thomas and Pearl Simms. He was also predeceased by siblings Maude (Frederick) Stroud, James (Lillian Collier), Johnny, William (Marie Lights), niece Mary (Stroud) Gale and brother-in-law Sam Ford.
Brian sailed on the Great Lakes for most of his career. He retired from Transport Canada where he worked as a lighthouse keeper on Colombier Island and Dawson’s Point. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he lit up when they would visit or FaceTime. Brain had a witty sense of humour and while he spent his final months at LeGrow Health Centre, the staff became like another family. Several staff became very special to him, and he appreciated those who could make (and take) a good joke.
The family is very grateful to the Dr. Thomas, Angela Chaulk and all nurses/staff on Long Term Care for their excellent medical care. The entire staff in all departments at LeGrow are appreciated for their compassionate care during Brian’s admissions both to Acute Care and Long Term Care. The kind little things from Recreation, Dietary and Housekeeping staff meant so much and will never be forgotten.
In keeping with Brian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 from10 a.m to 12 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 at 2 p.m. from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Grand Bay, officiated by Rev. Fay Coffin. Interment will follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Route 470. Due to the latest Government regulations your Newfoundland VaxPass, photo ID and masks are required for entry to the visitation and church service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory may be made to the Dr. Charles LeGrow Long Term Care Unit. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL. info@easthavenfuneralhome.com (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
