Claire’s Obituary
NICKERSON, Claire Blanche – 84, of Barrington formerly of Woods Harbour, We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother at Bay Side Home, on December 21, 2021. Born at Yarmouth on July 4, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Jannie (d’Eon) Amirault. To all who knew her she was known for her kindness and selflessness. The joy she found in spreading love was what made her the wonderful, kind caring person she was. Once moving from Pubnico to Woods Harbour after marriage she found herself raising five children that she adored. They were her pride and joy and she loved them all so much. Family was everything to her! She was a woman of many gifted talents. During winters you could find her knitting mittens and Lopes for her children to wear to school. When she wasn’t doing that, you couldn’t beat her speed at knitting heads to sell to the lobstermen for their pots. She took pride in all she did in life. In the summers she also spent doing something else she was gifted at, she definitely had a hand for doing herring roe at Sea Life in Pubnico, her speed once again left her always having cut the most each day. She had a passion for music. Her life was spent singing at every church she could find or concert that was taking place. She enjoyed when her daughters were younger taking them around singing, they formed a group called “The Singing Nickersons”. She was well known for raising money to help those in need; charities by doing Christmas Daddies Concerts for man many years along with IWK benefits, to Cablethons in her community. She loved every moment and loved to sing. Claire was a faithful dedicated member of the Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church, were she was an Outreach director there, always wanting to find ways to help others. She was loved by the children when she became a Sunday School teacher and couldn’t wait to go each morning to see their smiling faces. Claire enjoyed her summer trips with her girls traveling to New Brunswick by train back in the day to one of her favourite places called “Beulah”, she got to spend time with some her friends for church gatherings. Her and her husband were no strangers to the Woods Harbour mail route, serving over 30 years for the postal department as the mail carriers for the community, she enjoyed it when people would come out for a chat to grab their mail! Little did Claire know she would also end up with quite the green thumb having the hugest garden; you name it, she had it! She loved going out and gathering her vegetables to cook each day for supper. She became stricken with Parkinsons later in life but that didn’t stop her, for she had a drive for life, her strength to overcome obstacles that were not going to keep her down as she continued to try her best daily, as age would have it she then had a hospital visit that she never returned home… living first to Surf Lodge in Lockeport, then her last place of Bay Side Home, Barrington. Claire was a wonderful inspiration to many, admired for her strength, determination, love, kindness, that she let shine from within her heart daily. Her heart was full by helping and giving to others but her children will always be her greatest accomplishment and the loves of her life. She is survived by her husband, Austin Albert Nickerson; children, Dennis Nickerson (Wanda), Austin Nickerson (Maureen), Tricia Hatfield (Guy), Cheryl Penney (Derrick); daughter-in-law, Debbie Nickerson; siblings, Dorothy Gallace, Carl Amirault; grandchildren, Heather, Rhonda, Austin, Christopher, Michael, Jason, Kristy, Jesse, Gabriel; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Jordan, Summer, Cohen, Kayleb, Katlin, Nova; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a private family service held. There will be a recording of the service available on our website for those unable to attend. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Woods Harbour. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
