Olivia Andrego (nee Gioberti) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Olivia was predeceased by her husband Victor Andrego, her mother, Nazerena Gioberti, her father, Guido Gioberti, her sisters, Ann Zamprogna and Mary Thornton, and brother, Jim Gioberti. Survived by her five children, Marian (Carlo) Fontana, Paul (Yvonne) Andrego, Anita (Ron) Taylor, Peter (Sandra) Andrego and Michael (Mary Ellen) Andrego. Olivia is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. At a young age, Olivia was a lead singer with a local big band orchestra at the famous Brant Inn in Burlington. Professionally, Olivia became known as Olivia Haute Couture. She was extraordinarily talented. She was a pioneer in Canadian fashion design and one of Canada’s premier designers for four decades. She not only designed women’s wear but also men’s wear and children’s clothes. She trained at The Traphagen School of Fashion Design in New York City. Soon afterward, she opened an Haute Couture boutique in Hamilton. and later, an Haute Couture boutique on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach Florida. Olivia’s fashion designs were featured at the 1967 World Expo in Montreal and at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, New York. Special thanks to Dr. Boyle at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 120 Sherman Avenue North, Hamilton, on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 10 a.m. In accordance with provincial regulations, there is a limit to the number of visitors who may attend at one time.
