Obituary of James William Olmstead
Age 74, of Cameron Lake, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at home. Born on April 7, 1947, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, he was a son of the late William and Vera (May) Olmstead.
Jim was a wonderful husband and father to his three children. He taught them many life skills including a terrific work ethic and a bit of sarcasm. Jim worked as an employment counsellor, worked in graphics with the first computers and ran his own businesses. His joy was dealing in antiques and collectibles. He created magic with stained glass and opened his first shop called “Superfluous Necessities”, where he also refinished furniture, like his father. He could barter with anyone. Later, he ran his own landscaping business and his three children worked alongside of him every summer. Jim had a great love for all animals. His happy place was sitting at the lake reading his newspaper with a cup of tea while he fed the ducks and geese. Jim was a private person but also very generous to the underdog.
Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Morrison); daughter, Kaitlin Casey Irene; sons, Matthew James William (Sariaka Rakotondrazafy) and Nicholas Alexander (Michelle); sister, Helen Alcorn and loving animals, Tabby, Aries, Fergus, and Roxy.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donny and sister, Janis Fucchino.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation by request. A private family service celebrating Jim’s life will be held and a public funeral service will be announced at a later date. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to your favorite animal shelter.
