Obituary of Sheila Maureen Blann
October 25, 1934 – January 24, 2021
Sheila passed away peacefully at Strathmere Lodge at age 86. She will be sorely missed by her legion of friends. Her long time best friend, Jean Stewart, who predeceased her in 2000. Sheila was born in Brighton, Sus, England and was the only child of William who was a “jack of all trades” and Doris a very artistic mother. Sheila wanted to be a nurse and studied mid-wifery in London, England. Shortly after she started nursing, she met a Canadian from Ontario and they both came to London, Ontario and started working at Victoria Hospital. She then worked as a Supervisor at Delaware Nursing Home and retired as Head Nurse at Parkwood Hospital on the Veterans Floor. After retirement she worked as Secretary at St. John the Evangelist Church and volunteered for many years with VON teaching exercises and providing transportation to seniors.
Sheila had many interests including books, travelling, people and of course, animals. She had many pets over the years the last being a long haired Dachshund, Marcus and two cats, Demi (short for Demitasse) and Misty. She loved music, especially classical and she sang in two choirs.
Sincere thanks to the staff at Strathmere Lodge, who were so very kind and thoughtful.
In keeping with Sheila’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will take place at DENNINGS’ OF STRATHROY with inurnment to follow at Nairn cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Sheila are asked to consider Middle-Elgin Branch of the VON. Online condolences and donations may be made at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com
