Gladys Jean Vail
1933-2021
Gladys J. Vail of Brockway, NB passed away on November 26, 2021 at
Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. She was born on August 30, 1933 in
Charlotte County, NB, a daughter of the late Frederick and Bessie
(Davis) Toft.
Gladys was a school teacher, a member of Harvey Eastern Star and St.
Andrew’s United Church in Harvey. She enjoyed hunting and even
harvested deer and a moose. Gladys pastimes included gardening,
sewing, crossword puzzles and shopping. Spending time with her family
was very important to her.
She is survived by her children, Mark Vail, Brockway, NB and Roselle
Gowan (James), Fredericton; one grandson Matt Gowan, Fredericton, NB;
one great granddaughter Aisley Gowan, Fredericton, NB; a
sister-in-law, Marjorie Hovey; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband,
Arnold Vail;
two brothers Andrew Toft and George Toft; two sisters Velma Campbell
and Helen Baten.
Visiting hours will be held at Swan Funeral Chapel, 1826 Route 3,
Harvey Station, NB on Monday evening, November 29, 2021 from 6 to 8
pm. A graveside service will be held at the Brockway Cemetery,
Brockway, NB on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 1 pm with Rev. Hollis
Clark officiating. Pallbearers will be Matt Gowan, James Gowan,
Robert Ames, Murray Toft, Glendon Hovey and Brian Hovey.
For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Gladys, the family
has suggested the Brockway Cemetery, Alzheimer Society or a charity of
the donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Wauklehegan Manor for the
care and compassion they gave their mother and gram over the past
three years.
