Mark Othniel Blakney, 103, of Moncton, New Brunswick (NB) passed away peacefully November 24, 2021, at the Salvation Army Lakeview Manor, Riverview NB with his daughter by his side. Mark was born the youngest of three boys in Salem, NB, on May 23, 1918. He was the son of the late John Cecil Blakney 1877-1957 and Annie Grace (Johnson) Blakney 1889-1977.
He was self-employed for most of his life and owned several small businesses over the years, including trucking, real estate, parking lot owner, and always found ways of keeping himself busy. Mark was an excellent cook and the many people that stopped by his house throughout the years were well-aware of this. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He loved road trips whether it was near or far. He took his family on many adventures in their trailer over the years. He enjoyed gardening and equally the bountiful fall harvest.
Mark was a well-respected man and thought highly of by all who met him. He was a man of great faith. He was a member of Living Waters Church of God, formerly Pathway Church of God, and instrumental in its founding.
He was a wonderful father and as a result was dearly loved by his three daughters, Carol Ann Blakney (Lakeville), Marlene Grace Blakney (Ottawa), and Sandra Lee Blakney (Moncton). He will also be missed by his grandson Mark Weldon and his great-grandson Maxxum Weldon and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Doris Madeline (Beers) Blakney in 2005. Also predeceased by his grandson, Sandra’s only son, Joshua Mark Blakney in 2016; brothers Rev. Lester Blakney in 1991 and John Edward “Ned” Blakney in 2003.
Both the Visitation and the Celebration of His Life will be on Tuesday, November 30, at Living Waters Church of God at 24 Miracle Drive in Lakeville, NB. The visitation will start at 1:00 p.m. with the service commencing at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the nearby Lakeside Cemetery. Guests are invited to return to the church for a lunch following the interment. Those that wish may stay at the church during this time.
Sincere thanks go out to the staff of Lakeview Manor who took excellent care of our father during the last two years of his life. Due to their warmth and kindness, Dad came to call it home.
The funeral will be livestreamed through Chipman Funeral home & Crematorium Facebook page for those who cannot attend. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on indoor gatherings all those over 12 who attend will be required to wear a mask and show proof of vaccination and a piece of government issued ID.
In Mark’s memory, donations to the Living Waters Church of God or the Salvation Army Lakeview Manor would be appreciated.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home & Crematorium (506-339-6612). Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca.
