Tufail Tom Masih Tuesday November 16th 2021

passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16 2021 at Allendale Residence in Milton, Ontario, with family members by his side. He was born on November 11, 1941 in Jalandhar, India and was the son of the late Victor and Sardaraan Babu (Shamaan) Masih. Tom, as he was known for over 50 years, immigrated with his family to England in 1970, and from there to Saskatchewan, Canada in 1981. In 1984, the family settled in Ontario where they remained for 37 years. Tom trained and worked as a radiographer in India. Once in Canada, he had to change careers and he found fulfilment in his work at the ICU unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto. Tom believed in the importance of serving God through serving others in their hour of need. His work allowed him to live his faith. Tom was gifted with a gregarious nature and a sincere curiosity about others. He could talk to anyone, and often did. He was famous for having ‘talking buddies’ around town in the places he would go to regularly – the bank, the mall, the grocery store. He would always say ‘tell me your story’ and people would! As they shared their stories, they would find comfort in his understanding, his kindness and infectious smile. He also loved to feed people! For Tom, there was no greater pleasure than having people over to enjoy his famous BBQ tandoori chicken. Tom taught his children that providing enough food for a party meant having leftovers for 3 days! Guests must be treated with generosity and abundance, for that too was in service to God. He shared the lessons of generosity with his grandchildren and every Christmas would take them to purchase items for the shoeboxes that were sent overseas by Christian charities. Tom loved to play chess and taught the game to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the strategy and challenge of the game and believed it would help children learn to think. He even believed that the family dog should be taught to problem solve and would create food puzzles for them using yogurt containers and egg cartons. His favourite cake was Black Forest which he unfailingly brought to celebrations of all kinds. He was an avid amateur photographer who would make people hold poses for ages while he meticulously adjusted focus on his 35mm cameras … even with his cell phone he spent a long time framing the shots. He took many pictures of his family and friends, but he also took great pleasure and pride in capturing the flowers and produce that he and his wife Dorothy grew in their garden. One of his most enduring hobbies was his pleasure in writing religious prose and poetry. He would meditate on Bible passages until inspiration struck and a poem, sharing his lyrical understanding of faith, would soon follow. But through all the years, the trials and the tribulations, his greatest constant was his devotion to his wife Daulat (Dorothy) and to his family. Married in 1967, Tom and Dorothy forged a strong and enduring union for 54 years. They did everything together and were successful partners in all aspects of married life. Once they had established a goal or a decision, they were unshakeable in their commitment to seeing it through. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy Daulat (Sadhu Mall); his daughter Madhavi Masih-Bishop (Robert) and his son Peter Masih (Linda); his four grandchildren, Cadence Bishop, Madison Masih, Zachary Bishop and Maximus Masih. He has 3 surviving siblings, his brothers, Yunus Masih (Violet) and Wilson Masih (Mary) and his sister Veena Masih-Kumar. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces; Samuel Yunus Masih, Vishal David Masih, Manisha Masih, Lisa Kumar and Michelle Kumar.
