Mabel E. Best
Mabel E. Best, age 80, passed away peacefully on November 17th, 2021 after a short stay at The Highland Manor in Neil’s Harbour.
She was born in Ben Breagh on August 17th, 1941 to the late J.K and Lexina (McIver) Morrison. Named after Dr. Mabel Bell, who delivered her at birth, Mom spent her childhood at the family homestead neighbouring the Bell Estate.
Mom showed great care and compassion through her 30+ years working with Community Services, volunteering with the IVFD, school breakfast program, and being a dedicated member of The United Church. Her door was always open for a hot cup of tea, where you would usually find her baking up a storm while wearing one of her many aprons. Mom became known for her holiday cheeseballs, which she loved to share throughout the community. She was a selfless person who thoroughly enjoyed the simple things in life
Left loving her unconditionally are siblings Kathleen, Jacquline, Fraser, and many in-laws. Children, Kevin, Pamela (Maynard), Kenneth (Phyllis), and daughter-in-law, Shauna. Mom adored her grandkids, who were always coming and going from her house with a full belly and many memories. Christopher, Alisha (Mitchell), Megan, Ian, Dougie, Jericho, and Sasha. Mom was also blessed with great grandchildren Addison, Hayden, Danni, and Wesley.
Besides her parents Mabel was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Ian. Siblings, Harold, Marie, Donnie, Murdock, Henry, and Russell, along with a grandchild in infancy, William
Special thanks to the Victoria County Home Support Services, along with the staff at Buchanan Memorial and Highland Manor for showing Mom compassion and care during the last few months, we appreciate you.
Cremation has taken place, a Funeral service to celebrate Mabel’s life will be held at The Ingonish United Church on Friday, November 26th, 2021 at 11AM with Rev. Carolyn Sharpe officiating. Family burial to follow. Please join us at the North Ingonish Firehall to celebrate and share stories of Mable’s life following the service.
