Geraldine Eleanor Wilson
With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Geraldine (“Gerry”) Eleanor Wilson (née Williams) in her 90th year on Wednesday, November 3 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton. Gerry was born in Peterborough, Ontario and resided in Oakville/Burlington community for over 40 years. Gerry is predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence (“Larry”) James Wilson, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Beverley and James Van Sickle, her brother, Gordon Williams, and her niece, Janet Hill. Gerry is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jim Helsdon, her son, Michael Wilson, her sister-in-law, Betty Williams and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eileen and Bill Hill. Gerry’s two grandsons, Andrew and Matthew (Helsdon), and her granddaughter, Jessica (Wilson), were fortunate to share many wonderful memories with their grandma over the years. Gerry will be greatly missed by her countless family, friends and sorority sisters. Throughout her life, Gerry was a dedicated wife and a caring mother, who enjoyed curling, golfing and skiing. Larry and Gerry loved to travel together, and Gerry continued to enjoy these adventures after Larry’s passing with various family and friends. Gerry belonged to her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, for all of her life, and to St. Jude’s Anglican Church in Oakville, for more than 30 years. Gerry’s kind and generous nature was demonstrated through her passion for philanthropy, and she always supported many community organizations and charities. Gerry was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for her work. Gerry’s family would like to thank Ewa and Imelda at Hearthstone by the Lake in Burlington, who were faithful and compassionate caregivers to Gerry during the particularly difficult COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the many other members of the Hearthstone community. Gerry’s family would also like to thank Gail and her wonderful team of nurses and personal service workers at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, who cared for Gerry for three months when she was initially admitted to the hospital in March 2021. Finally, Gerry’s family offers their sincere appreciation to Dr. Luthra, Dr. Mathe, Leanne, Charlotte and the many others who provided support to Gerry during her final months at St. Peter’s Hospital. To our mom and grandma, “As your earthly journey comes to an end, may you rest in peace in the arms of our Father”. A funeral service celebrating Gerry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre in Peterborough. Proof of Covid 19 Vaccinations with government identification is required to attend Funeral the Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either St. Jude’s Anglican Church in Oakville or to the Oakville Community Foundation, noting “Larry and Gerry Wilson Family Fund”.
