BERGIE, Gerald Paul (Gerry)
Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa on November 2, 2021 in his 94th year. Born in Victoria Harbour, Ontario on October 2, 1928. Loving husband of the late Veronica (nee McNeaney). Lovingly remembered by his children, Deborah Mikalauskas (Andy), Most Reverend Gerard Bergie, Michelle Fraser (Bruce) and Brendan Bergie. Loving grandfather to Veronica, Luke, Erik, Colleen and his 8 great-grandchildren. Son of the late Paul Bergie and Marguerite (Tyne). Brother to Jack and Catherine and the late Lorraine, Lawrence, Norma, Lea, Cecil, Patrick and Paul. He was a friend to many and held a special fondness for his cousin Catherine McAvoy. Gerry was a dedicated employee of Dofasco for many years and retired as Superintendent of Materials Handling in 1991. A special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their compassionate care. Gerry was an avid animal lover; in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to either the SPCA or the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation.
Visitation will be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Avenue (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 between 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Prayers will be offered at 8:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 50 Brucedale Ave. E. on Wednesday, November 10th at 11:00am. Internment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
