Obituary for Vernon George Edward Dowdall
Vernon George Edward Dowdall
Vern grew up in Cobourg, Ontario, the second eldest of four brothers, including Eugene, Marvin and Harley. He was the son of William Dowdall and Eleanor Gordon. He spent most of his professional life working in the trucking industry as a dealer development manager, first for Mercedes Benz/ Freightliner, and then Kenworth Trucks. He travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States in this capacity, and he enjoyed this opportunity to see new places and meet new people.
His favorite place to be was his cottage on Jack’s Lake, the place he headed to most weekends, even when the weather wasn’t ideal. He loved to fish for bass, pickerel, and the occasional muskie, and after a good day of fishing, prepare a big fish dinner for family and friends. He enjoyed playing his guitars and hosting parties. Not one to sit still for long, he was always busy repairing a dock or a railing, cutting and splitting wood, or trying to make the outboard run better. But he could just as frequently be found asleep on the docks in his favorite chair, with the radio playing in the boathouse.
His passing is preceded by his parents, and his brothers Eugene and Marvin. He is survived by his longtime partner Maria Medieros, sons Vernon (Michelle) Dowdall and Sean (Bevin Sekora) Dowdall, grandchildren Savannah, Rider and Genesis, and brother Harley.
In accordance with Vern’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. His ashes will be scattered at Jack’s Lake.
