Mom was born in Teulon, MB. She had several careers in her lifetime. Mom being the first. She worked as a switch board operator at Health Sciences Center then for Manitoba Telephone service as an operator until we moved to Matheson Island, MB in 1984. Frontier school division was her next stop. Here she was able to travel to lots of interesting places, Vancouver for Expo 86, Iceland, New Orleans and Niagara Falls. There were also countless trips in Manitoba and a few to other provinces and North Dakota and Minnesota for our infamous casino trips.
Mom then moved to Winnipeg and went to the University of Manitoba and obtained her degree in Occupational Therapy. She started working for Community Therapy Services which took her to many of Manitoba’s small towns. Selkirk, The Pas, Portage la Prairie and Pinawa, while in these towns mom could enjoy her love of driving. She wouldn’t think twice about driving into the city from The Pas for the weekend. In her final years of working as an OT she returned to Winnipeg, where she retired.
Mom loved to cook and bake. She was always trying out new recipes and hoarded many recipes and magazines with recipes she thought of trying. Mom loved her gambling and we took a few trips to the Shooting Star Casino. As well as spending many a late night at the casinos in Winnipeg.
Moms favorite pass time though was driving, she would just drive anywhere and often just drive by our houses late at night to check up on us. Mom you are missed and loved. Although we all had mom live with one of us at times we want to thank my aunt Susie for caring for her and my sister Heather who cared for her for the last several years.
