Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Drager announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, October 9, 2021, after a short illness at the age of 91.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill, and her five siblings. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Jay (Gail) and Dean (Barb Shannon), and two adored grandchildren Kent and Alison (Laurie) Holmes.
Helen was born in Edmonton, the youngest of six children. She enjoyed ice skating, particularly speed skating, as well as archery. She met Bill, the love of her life, while skating at an outdoor rink. She was a licensed comptometer operator and worked at the T. Eaton Company, then Safeway Foods until she and Bill were married in 1953. Helen was actively involved in her sons’ lives, including several years as the secretary of their Boy Scouts’ chapter and as a volunteer at the Crestwood Community League.
Helen and Bill enjoyed many years of travel, including yearly trips across Canada for Canadian Firefighters’ Curling events. She and Bill had many lifelong friends and often told tales of countless travel adventures both international and domestic. However, her favorite summer destination was the cabin on Lake Wabamun. Ever the gracious hosts she and Bill eagerly welcomed family and friends to delight in the late afternoon happy hour.
Much else could be said, but those who knew her will remember her charm, wit and devotion to her family and friends. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and she will be dearly missed.
A private family service has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Helen Drager 2021..
