Brown, Sadie I. (Oake) RN
June 10, 1926 – October 16, 2021
Passed away at Pleasant View Towers on Saturday, October 16, 2021, Sadie I. Brown (Oake), at the age of 95. Predeceased by her husband Maxwell (2018), her parents Raymond and Mildred (Willis) Oake, brothers Bill and Harvey and sisters Ida (Bob Wells, deceased) and Mabel (Fred Woodward deceased), adopted brother Teddy (Sidney) and her lifelong friend Bernice Kennedy. Leaving to mourn her sons Edwin (Mary Ryan), Robert (Elizabeth Wells) and Gary (Wanda Pickett). Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Adam (Cheryl Sturge) and their children Parker and Colton, Andrea (David Nixon) and their children Tyler and Ashley, Stephen (Leona Wickham) and their children Jacob and Aaron, Melissa (Jonathan Murphy) and their children Jayda and Caleb, and Dr. Nicole Brown. Also leaving to mourn her Sister-in-law Sylvia (Rufus Garza deceased), Houston Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends. Sadie was born in Seal Cove, White Bay and grew up in Chamberlains. She was a graduate of the Nursing Class of 1947. Sadie loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, loved to curl and travelled to many parts of Canada with her husband Max for the Canada Post Curling Association. Her early summers were spent camping at Notre Dame Park with her best friends Bernice and Ed Kennedy. Sadie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the RCAF Club in St. John’s for many years. The family would like to thank the staff of 2SW at Pleasant View Towers for their care, patience and understanding with Sadie and Barrett’s Funeral Home for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request, with Funeral service from Barrett’s Chapel on Thursday. October 21, at 11:00 am. Internment at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cemetery, Topsail. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sadie’s memory may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation.
