It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Marie Phillips (Hinkley) announces her peaceful passing at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home on October 14th, 2021. Born on August 13th, 1945 in Inverness, she was the daughter of Walter Hinkley and the late Marion Hinkley.
Shirley is survived by her children, Lydia (John) Reynolds, Moncton, NB; Charlie (Catherine) Phillips, Lloydminster, AB; Hank (Wendy) Phillips, Dartmouth, NS; David (Kim) Phillips, Port Hawkesbury, NS; Kimberly Phillips, Dartmouth, NS; Norma (Travis) Snow, Mulgrave, NS; Dawn (Butch) Bodhaine, Reserve Mines, NS; sisters Geraldine Kennedy, Port Hawkesbury, NS; Sadie MacLeod (Peter) Dartmouth, NS; Juanita Ross, Inverness, NS; brother Joseph (Margaret) Middle River, NS; 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Joyce; granddaughter, Shelby; sister, Doreen.
Shirley worked in hospitality and home care during her life. She made her main priority raising her children who she loved dearly and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren whom she cherished. She loved every one of her family members especially her mother, father and siblings who she held dear to her heart. She showed everyone that she met the utmost kindness. She loved to dance and even more she loved to sing. She was a woman with style and a heart of gold. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
We would like to thank all the staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing home for all the wonderful care they provided.
Visitation will be held on October 18, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury. A private family service will be held on October 19, 2021 at 11:00am at Green’s Funeral Home; Rev. Jim McNaughton officiating. Following the family service, committal will take place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Baddeck Forks; all are welcome to attend. Please note: as per provincial regulations, proof of full vaccination and masks are required.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home or to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
