Obituary
Con passed away peacefully on October 13, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family after fighting a courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). Con was born August 24, 1943 in Nipawin, SK to William and Rose Korniski. In 1947, the family moved to Saskatoon, SK. Con attended King George Elementary School, then Bedford Road Collegiate Institute, where he was elected as Senior Watch (1960). He went on to complete his education at the University of Saskatchewan (1967). In 1968, married Cheryl Waldner and completed the first year of his teaching career at Rostern, SK. In August of that year the pair moved to the Wetaskiwin, AB area. Con began teaching at Queen Elizabeth Junior High School where he started as a teacher then Vice Principal and finally as Principal, until his retirement in 1999.
He aspired to be a positive influence for his numerous students and colleagues throughout his career. Even in retirement, he felt pride as they achieved their full potential. Con was a man who could find humour in every situation, and would delight in making people laugh, sometimes to the point of tears! He loved spending time with his family and friends, was an avid photographer, gardener, and enjoyed music and watching sports. As a born educator, he never missed an opportunity to share a teachable moment about science, nature, wood working, mechanics, or politics. Above all else he loved supervising, always prefaced with “You know what you should do…”
Con will be forever lovingly remembered by his wife, best friend and soulmate of 53 years Cheryl; their children, Crista (Jason Near), Evan (Jennifer) Korniski; and grandchildren, Joshua and Elizabeth Korniski; sisters, Sandra Essar, Shelly (Leonard) Slogostski and Sherry Korniski; mother in-law, Laurina Waldner; in-laws, Brian (Rayella) Waldner, Denise Korpan, Eloise (Lonnie) Mukanik, Kevin Waldner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Con was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Rose Korniski; brother-in-law, Walter Essar; father-in-law, Andrew Waldner; and brother-in-law, Ed Korpan.
As per Con’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral out of respect for the impact of COVID. In lieu of flowers, donations in Con’s memory can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, or Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin.
