Obituary
Mervin James Dawe passed away on October 14, 2021 at the age of 81 years.
Mervin was born July 19, 1940 at the family farm 14 miles south of Wiseton on his mother’s 39th birthday. He was the youngest son of George Andrew Dawe and Nellie Elizabeth Dawe (née Gowan). He is survived by his wife of 57 years Janet Dawe (née Collins), his daughter Helen Beth Falconer, grandchildren Rachelle, Michael and Meagan Franklin and his great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Braxton and Blakelynn. He is also survived by his brother Garner. He was predeceased by his sons Murray and David as well as his parents and brother George and Harold.
Mervin’s story as composed by him:
I took my 11 years of schooling at Wiseton. I quit school in grade 11 after Easter to go to work for Federal Grain Construction at Ponteix in 1958. Following that, I tried my hand at farming at the Bourbon Farm and as a canter at the saw mill at Dome Creek, BC in the winter. I then went to work for Max Nickell Redi-Mix at Melfort. After marrying Janet Collins in March of 1964, I then worked on road construction for MacKay Construction building roads in Northern Saskatchewan from Otter Rapids to MacLean Lake. In 1969, I started working with the R.M. of Milden and in 1973, I bought the poolroom in Wiseton and I went to work as the town maintenance man, plus running the school bus to Dinsmore and also sold cars as an agent for the Ford dealership in Loreburn. Our two children, David and Beth were in school by this time. 1977 saw us sell everything and move to Elrose where I went to work as the foreman for the R.M. of Monet. In 1981, I thought I would try farming and went to work for Allan McConnell as well as renting three-quarters of farmland. This had some good points and some bad ones. We subsequently bought a house in Wartime and I returned to work for the R.M. of Monet. Then on May 27, 1984 came the worst day of my life. Our son David was killed in a vehicle accident near Irricanna, Alberta which was caused by a drunk driver. In September of 1985, I was hired as the foreman for the R.M. of St. Andrews and we bought a house in Rosetown. I retired from St. Andrews on July 31, 2002. We bought a house in Zealandia. Life has been good.
There will be no service at Mervin’s request. Interment of cremated remains will take place in the family plot at the Holt Cemetery near Wiseton.
