Obituary of Allura Ann Smith
Smith: Allura Ann
On October 13, Allura Ann Smith died peacefully at home with family at the age of 88. A devoted wife and mother, Ann lived a very full and rich life.
Always an excellent student, Ann was an avid reader with a curious mind, strong ethical sense, and powerful intellect. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (1970) and a Bachelor of Education (1975) from Queen’s University, she was a dedicated and innovative teacher who enjoyed working with young children at various elementary schools including Linklater, Hiscocks, and Mallorytown public schools.
Well known for her beautiful knitting and sewing skills, Ann loved to travel and visit new places, especially art galleries and museums. She also was very fond of visiting with the “Club Girls” and listening to operas with her lifelong friend and sister-in-law Judy Hillis. While her interests were wide ranging, Ann’s most important focus was her family. It is hard to imagine a more committed and supportive mother and spouse. Ann had a wonderful sense of humour and her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and learning about their lives. Predeceased by her parents, Hiram and Maisie Stanton, and her loving husband of 55 years, Patrick Smith, she is survived by her 3 children, Suzanne, Christopher, and Martha; 5 grandchildren, Quinn, Liza, Andrew, Hannah, and JQ; and 3 great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Jake and Eleanor.
The family would like to thank the extraordinary nurses from Bayshore and the Brockville Palliative Team for their compassionate home care.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to one of Ann’s favourite charities, such as the Canadian Council of the Blind, the Canadian Red Cross, the Canadian Wildlife Federation, the Cancer Research Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, and War Amputations of Canada.
An outdoor celebration of Ann’s life will take place in spring 2022.
