It is with great sadness we announce the passing of
Janette Gilroy, 87, of Amherst, NS.
Janette passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Born in Leicester, NS, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd
and Helen (Bowser) Simmonds.
Janette worked for a few years in house keeping at the
Amherst Hospital before spending the next 21 years at Northern
Telecom.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, children and
grandchildren and was often seen speeding around the woods on her
four-wheeler outdoing most of the younger people. She loved being in
the outdoors.
She will be deeply missed by her family and all those who
have ever come in contact with her humorous wit and loving
nature.
She is survived by her brothers Gordon (Donna) Simmonds and
Steven (Diane) Simmonds; children Alan (Sandy) Gilroy, Roy (Carmel)
Gilroy, Karen (Barry) Gilroy, Janet (Dennis) Mitchell, Peter (Carrie)
Gilroy and daughter-in-law Janice Gilroy. Along with 19 grand children
and several great-grandchildren and great,
great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 44
years Raymond William Gilroy, her daughter Ruth Ann (Gilroy) Spicer,
son William (Tony) Gilroy, grandchildren Daniel Simpson, Adam Simpson
and Raymond Gilroy; sisters Ruth Fraser, Virginia Simmonds and Norma
Tower.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of
Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) A graveside service will be held at a
later date.

Alzheimer’s Society.
