Shirley Marcella Sutton (nee Hustins) – November 12, 1937- October 7, 2021
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Marcella Sutton at Agnes Pratt Home, St. John’s, NL October 7, 2021 age 83 from a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her sister Louise, brother Donald and sister in-law Kathryn were at her side. Shirley is predeceased by her mother Lucy Louise (1998); father Gordon (1987); infant brother Gerald, twin of Donald (1946) and niece Kate Hustins (2004).
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories husband Albert (Meadow Creek); sons: Jim (Cheryl), Mount Pearl and Stephen, Saint Andrews, New Brunswick; sister Louise, brother Donald (Kathryn), St. John’s; niece Nancy Louise Hustins, Ottawa; nephew Jeremy Starkes, CBS, niece Allison Starkes, St. John’s.
Shirley’s family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care, love and attention given by all of the staff at the Agnes Pratt Home and the frequent visits by cousin and good friend Loretta Goodyear
Shirley attended Curtis Academy School and graduated in 1955. She graduated 3 years later as an R.N. in Nursing from the General Hospital. She spent the rest of her working career in pediatrics and geriatrics. She loved the outdoors and was a very active in cross country skiing, skating, gardening, swimming and would walk up to 10 kilometres daily on numerous trails including the East Coast Trail. She loved spending time in her family’s cabin on the Salmonier Line.
Visitation will be Wednesday October 13th at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Ave., Mount Pearl, from 12noon to 2pm followed by a service in the chapel. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made in Shirley’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador to assist in discovering the cause of this terrible disease.
This was a long hard journey for her and her family. She will remain forever in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
