ULICNY, Donna Joan (Nee Watson, Nee Spearin)
September 3, 1940 – October 3, 2021
Beloved wife of 60 years to Andrew Ulicny.
Daughter of and predeceased by William Charles Watson and Dorothy Winnifred Taylor. Loving mother of Gregory (Susan) Ulicny, Janet (Joe) Mullen, and Robert Ulicny. Grandmother of Clayton Hoogsteen (1989), Vanessa (Ricky), Ryan, Elaine (Aaron), Joanne Ulicny and Lauren, Morgan and Maeve Mullen. GG to Adalyn and RJ St. Onge. Sister of David Spearin, George (Marsha) Spearin, Dennis Spearin (2010), Rick (Cheryl) Watson, Terri (Mike) Watson-Barker. Sister-in-law to the late John (2010) (Margaret 2020) Ulicny, Bill (Jackie 2001) (Marlene 2021) Ulicny. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
Among Donna’s many accomplishments, after losing her first grandchild to Group B Strep, she researched and created the Canadian Group B Strep Association, and lobbied for standard testing of GBS for all pregnant women. She was on CBC’s Market Place in 1993 and received 7,000 letters from across Canada raising awareness of GBS in pregnancy and new born babies. She was proud to be a part of all the babies that have survived GBS since the protocols were established in 1997. Visitation will take place at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Road E, 519-253-7234 on Thursday October 7, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Church (385 Dieppe St.) on Friday October 8, 2021 at 11am. Cremation to follow. Reservations are required to attend the Funeral Mass.
