Alois Weber
May 31, 1930 – September 19, 2021
Passed away peacefully on September 19, 2021 at the age of 91. Proud father of Dave and Wendy Weber, and Coosje Weber and Peter Rasberry. Cherished companion of Janie McVicar and fondly remembered by her family and friends. Cherished grandfather of Dustin (Cornelia), Cole (Natalie), Lauren and Sydney. He was proud of the growing family of great grandchildren: Delayna, Carson, Tenley, Davis, Daniel, Jack and Connor. He will be missed by his many relatives living in Austria who share their fond memories of Uncle Louie.
Alois was born in Wenns, Austria on his 300 year old homestead of Matzelwald. He was one of 9 siblings and was the only sibling to immigrate to Canada in 1956. He started a life in Canada with his family in Grimsby and eventually settled in New Hamburg. He initially worked multiple jobs in order to provide for his family, then had a long career as a meat inspector with both Agriculture Canada and Agriculture Ontario. He was very proud to be a Canadian citizen, equally proud of his Austrian heritage.
Alois loved the outdoors and shared that love with his children from living on a farm, to camping, hiking and skiing. He shared his love of skiing with many children and adult racers at Chicopee Ski Club as a racing coach. Upon retirement, Alois moved to the countryside of Flesherton where he continued to teach skiing for Talisman Ski Area in his retirement.
Alois loved to share his love of hiking on the Bruce Trail with anyone willing to hike to Old Baldy. From the time his children were little, there was never an adventure too long that would take place on the farm or on a trail. Alois was usually followed by a group of children, all being told to keep up and stay strong.
The family would like to say a sincere thank you for the care and compassion given to him by the medical team at Markdale Hospital (Dr. Watts, Dr. Ferguson and the nursing team of Heather, Angie, Melanie and Janine). Thank you to dad’s nurse practitioner team of Amy Weber and Sandra Belbeck.
The family will be celebrating together a life well lived.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to Centre Grey Health Services Foundation or Bruce Trail Conservancy.
