David, our father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully after a long and fulfilling life. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Melitta (Warkentin), his parents and all his siblings. He is survived by his children, Vincent (Ruth), Adela (Mel), and James (LeAnn), his grandchildren, Kim (Mathew), Kathryn (Dan), Jeff(Jess), Tim (Karlyn), Carolyn (Tyler), Alex (Naomi), and Kate, and his great grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordan, Elias, Sam, Micah, Davin, Felix, Alanna, Easton, Leo, Sylvie, and Miles.
David was born in the village of Reinfeld, Manitoba. His first career was in farming. In 1952 he joined the teaching staff at the Winkler High School, where he taught English and Mathematics. In 1966, after receiving his PhD, he moved to Edmonton to begin a teaching career at the University of Alberta as a professor of Educational Administration. It could be said that he never really did retire as he spent his so-called retirement years managing his rental properties. This April, David and his family celebrated his one hundredth birthday. Throughout his life, his faith was very important to him and he was actively involved in his local congregation and the broader church.
A private celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 25 at First Mennonite Church. Please contact the church office for information regarding virtual attendance.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de FRIESEN David September 18 2021..
