THE LIFE OF BOB STEEVES
It is with great sadness our family announces the peaceful passing of Reverend Robert “Bob” John Steeves on September 14, 2021, at the age of 91 years in Red Deer, Alberta. Bob was born to Jack and Laurine Steeves at the Guess Ranch in Lomond, Alberta. Bob had a personality like his mother which could best be characterized as compassionate and sensitive with a huge caring heart. He accepted Jesus into his life at a very young age which subsequently shaped and defined his entire life. He was a positive role model and spiritual inspiration for his family and friends.
Bob started school in Yetwood in a one room school and completed his high school in Champion. He was farming with his dad and brothers but unfortunately developed grain allergies, therefore, Bob left the family farm to obtain his private pilot’s licence with his eye on a career as a pilot. Influenced by his strong desire to follow God’s plans, he changed his career path and became a Pastor, beginning at the Evangelical Free Church in Onoway.
In 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Ruth, a beautiful young woman from northern Alberta. Their commitment to God led them to become missionaries in the Philippines for several years where Bob was involved in planting churches. His kind disposition and caring personality served him well to fit in with the culture where he formed many trusting friendships with Filipinos. His heart was for people and his passion was for ministering.
In 1981, Bob attained his Master of Arts in Mission and Evangelism from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Bob and Ruth eventually retired from the Philippines and settled in Red Deer where Bob worked as a bus driver until his retirement. Bob wholeheartedly gave back to his community as a volunteer Pastor with Alberta Health Services and as a Chaplain with the Red Deer College.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, socializing with friends, playing tennis, golf, and was an avid scuba diver in the Philippines. In Canada, Bob was known to have an adventurous spirit with a passion for horseback riding, camping and exploring the foothills while hunting for elusive big game. He was also known to love attending local hockey games and rodeos (anywhere he could find them).
Bob Steeves is now rejoicing in Heaven with his grandson, Daniel Weaver; parents Jack and Laurine; brothers Don, Richard and Larry and sister Joy; sisters-in-law Vivian and Muriel (and Ben); brothers-in-law Tore and Stan.
Bob Steeves is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, and children Ian, Lorelei (Scott) and Linley (Tania); brothers Walter (Lois) and Del (Celeste) and sister Marilyn; sisters-in-law Ruth, Bev, Barb (Harold) and brother-in-law Tom; and grandchildren Marisa (Benji), Leanne, Kyle, Craig, Sierra, Vanessa and Austen. Bob also leaves behind many dearly loved cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Bob’s favorite bible verse was John 3:16.
At this time, the details of Bob’s memorial service are yet to be decided.
