Alvin Winston Loewen 2021

Obituary of Alvin Winston Loewen
Alvin Winston Loewen was born on October 13, 1934, at Swalwell, Alberta to Henry and Helena Toews Loewen. He passed away with a peaceful smile on his face surrounded by his family on September 14, 2021, at the Westview Care Community, Linden. Dad grew up in the Swalwell area with his 9 siblings, attending the New Hope and Linden Schools. He started working at the young age of 11, helping neighbors milk cows before school.
In his youth he was converted and baptized becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, being loyal to God and the Church the rest of his life. In the early morning before going out to do chores, he would be seen reading the Bible. Attending church was very important.
On August 25, 1957, he married Lillian Toews of Linden, Alberta. They were married for 64 years. Seven daughters and two sons blessed their life. Nieces, nephews and foster children also blessed our home.
Their first home was a small camper trailer on his parents’ yard east of Linden. For the next few years, they lived in various places, including Rocky Mountain House, Calgary and Edberg. Dad had many jobs including farmhand and truck driver. Settling on their farm in Linden, Dad raised hogs and had a dairy, as well as working off farm. He sold the dairy in 1996, but was then on to growing saskatoons and driving mail truck. Dad and Steve started a lawn mowing business. One thing he loved was traveling and visiting family in Florida, Arizona, Eastern Canada, Ontario, Jamaica and the Philippines. Dad and Mom really enjoyed the 16 months they spent in Red Deer in mission outreach. They moved to Linden in 2013, enjoying their retirement and making new friends. Dad delighted in having family over for wiener roasts and holiday gatherings. The last year and a half were spent at the Westview Care Community. He loved children, his face lighting up when they came to visit him, even in the last few minutes before passing away.
During his retirement woodworking was his hobby, making many cherished pieces for his family. Though he wasn’t one that praised us often, he showed his love by ensuring the engine oil and air in the tires on our vehicles was topped up. Dad was always willing to listen when we needed a listening ear. He worked steadily to support us.
Left with fond memories are his loving wife Lillian, daughters; Gwen Loewen, Donna Loewen, Roxie and Ches Toews, Linden, AB; Maxine and Darcy Goossen, Ferintosh, AB; Janice and Bruce Goossen, Harrow, ON; Kendra Loewen, Bluffton, AB; Carmen and Brad Loewen, Linden, AB; Tom Loewen and Steve Loewen and Sandra Sparvier, Siksika Nation, AB; 21 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Siblings Verna (Paul) Loewen, Valley View, AB; Monroe and Alice Loewen, Crooked Creek, AB; Don Loewen and Lucille, Edmonton, AB; Mary Loewen, Verna Loewen, Linden, AB; Marj (Mark) Friesen, Crooked Creek, AB; Jean Toews, Calgary, AB; Gary and Dolores Loewen, Pilot Mound, MB. In-laws Mae Toews, Anne Toews, Margaret Evans, Vern Toews, Harvey and Eileen Toews, Dennis and Hannah Toews, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Those gone before are his parents, his parents-in-law, two infant grandchildren Stephanie and Tristan Goossen, brother Paul, sister, Eleanor, six-brothers-in law and four sisters-in-law.
We as a family want to express our gratitude to the staff and physicians at Westview Care Community for the professional and loving care of our dear husband and father!

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Alvin Winston Loewen 2021..
