Obituary of Gladys May Merritt
It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Gladys Merritt occurred on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at St. Paul’s Hospital at the age of 72 years.
She is survived by her husband Carman and three children and their families; son Cory his wifeTessa and their children Taylor, Ryan, and Aliyah; son Jason his wife Tisha and their children Justin, Noah, and Madison; son Colin his wife Anita and their children Kaylen, Evan and Lavena as well as nephew Kirby, niece Shanda, brother-in-law Ed and many other relatives many other relatives. She was predeceased by her sister Muriel and granddaughter Alex.
Gladys was born to parents Robert and Elizabeth Glass on May 2, 1949, raised in Rhein, SK and later moved to Saskatoon with her sister. She met Carman Merritt in Saskatoon where they were married and built their life together. She worked at a number different jobs including employment with the Saskatoon Public School Board of many years before retirement, following which she and Carman moved to Leask, SK where they lived for ten years before returning to Saskatoon.
Gladys was very involved with her community wherever she lived. She loved going to dinners and dances with her husband and friends. The Seniors Centre was big part of her life for many years and she was always willing to help with the activities including cleaning, cooking and whatever else needed doing.
Family was central to her life. 20 years ago she donated a kidney to her niece in an act of true family love. For 40 years she spent every summer camping at Memorial Lake with her family often taking all the grandchildren at once. She and Carman were able to enjoy six years traveling south to spend the winter in Mesa Arizona. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends as well as her time on the horse shoe pits, golf course, bowling ally and curling rink, and her beautiful garden at the their home in Leask every summer.
Gladys will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all her family and many friends.
