It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Daniel Frederick Strang, age
82, of Malden, NB. Danny passed away at the Countryside
Residence in Port Elgin on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, surrounded by
family.
Born at a very early age in Malden, NB,
he was a son of the late John and Pauline (Sweeney)
Strang.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of
45 years, Nancy (Newberry) Strang; sisters Betty Ann Cullinan and
Maureen Barry, and brothers Raymond and Gary
Strang.
He is survived by his children, Laura
(John) Somerville, Slave Lake, AB, John (Anne-Charlotte), Montreal,
PQ, Karen Allen, Kanata, ON; Tanya Kelly, Lansdowne, NB; and 7
grandchildren (Savanna and Kailey Somerville, Lindsay Strang, Keagan
and Keira Strober, Brenna and Abby Kelly); siblings Elaine McInerney,
Toronto, Kathleen (William) Mitchell, Peace River, AB, Joan Steele,
Whitehorse, YK, Michael (Margaret) Strang, Edmonton, AB, and Russell
(Joanne) Strang, Comox, BC.
Danny graduated with honours from St.
Clements High School, Port Elgin, in 1956. He joined the Royal
Canadian Air Force in 1957 and was trained as a Radar Tech Air in
Clinton, Ontario. He was stationed in St. Hubert, PQ from 1958 to
1959. Danny served with NATO in Germany from 1959 to 1962 and came
home to work with NORAD on the Dew Line. Danny was awarded the NATO
medal for his military service. Danny was later employed as an
electrician with Marine Atlantic in Cape Tormentine from 1976 until
his retirement. He earned his Journeyman Industrial Electrician Inter
Provincial Certificate in 1990.
Danny married his wife, Nancy, in 1970.
Together they ran the Causeway Trailer Park campground for many years
while raising their family. Danny was very involved with St.
Bartholomew’s Catholic church, and a devoted member of the
Legion. He loved his garden and was proud to be known by many as
« Dan the Veggie Man. » He loved nothing more than to stir the
pot, laugh, sing and play guitar. In his last months he expressed
frequent gratitude for the help, support and love of his wonderful
friends, neighbours and family. He was well loved and admitted freely
that he had lived a great life.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of Jones Funeral Home, Port
Elgin and Sackville, NB (506-364-1300). A public Funeral
Mass will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11:30 am in the St.
Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Elgin. Burial will
take place in the St. Bartholomew’s Cemetery in Malden,
NB.
Donations can be made in his honour to
the Cape Tormentine Legion, St. Bartholomew’s Cemetery, or
the Countryside Special Care Home.
The family would like to say a special
thank you to Crystal, Andy, and the wonderful staff at Countryside.
They were so loving and kind and we will forever be
grateful.
