Obituary
David Charles Hurtibese of Orillia, Ontario passed away Sunday Sept 6th, 2021 after a difficult battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
David was born in Barrie, Ontario on Jul 13th 1954 to Charles & Elsie Hurtibese. Knowing his love for this community and of course, his love of sailing, it wasn’t a surprise that he went on to spend most of his life working and raising his family in the Barrie area. Upon meeting his spouse, Vera Penny of 12 years, he spent the later part of his life in Orillia.
His retirement years were spent reflecting on his beautiful life while appreciating the journey of hardships that came with illness and life’s curveballs. David always embraced and appreciated the support from the medical community. The people who were with him on this journey would often become friends. Though his list is too long to name, he is very much appreciative of Dr. Stokl and Dr.Van Walraven and her colleagues, as well as the support of the Orillia’s Memorial Hospital medical team. Their care was extraordinary in his last days.
David had many passions in life but his favourites included sailing and volunteering in his community. He cherished his time at the Champlain Sailing Club and found purpose and enjoyment through his volunteering at Royal Victoria Hospital, Soldiers Memorial Hospital and with the Knights of Columbus.
He cherished his life and the people in it. He felt blessed and felt that kindness made his journey rich.
David was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elsie Hurtibese and his beloved nephew, Troy Hurtibese. He is survived by his loving partner, Vera; his brother Paul (Jonny); his sister Mary Jane; his daughter Amanda MacDowell (Joe); his son Chris (Laura); Vera’s daughter, Laura (Danny); his beloved grandchildren, Elgin, Benson, Darcie and Ava; his nephew Jason (Patti); his niece, Stacey (Andrew); his dear friend, Mel and several cousins.
A funeral service will take place Saturday Sept 11th at 10 am at St Mary’s church in Barrie. A small reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
