It is with heavy hearts we the children, announce the passing
of our mom Linda Joyce Brown (Slack) of
Southampton, NS, formerly of Oxford Junction, NS on Sunday, September
5, 2021.
Born in Springhill, NS, Linda was the daughter of the late
Arthur and Berdeana (Palmer) Slack. As far as Art and Berdie were
concerned, the sun rose and set on Linda and her brother
Ronnie.
Linda spoke fondly of her memories growing up in Oxford
Junction in a loving home with supportive parents, and was happy to
share memories of her extended family with Gramma and Grampa Palmer
just living across the tracks. She had so many cousins for she and
Ronnie to play/chum with over the years. Each summer they waited
patiently for the cousins that lived away to come home for vacations.
She also had dear friends from the Junction that lasted her a life
time and for that we will be forever grateful.
In 1968 Linda married her husband of almost fifty years,
Denton Brown. They shared a life together until his passing in 2018.
Both Linda and Denton worked hard, but Linda, being a free spirit,
made her work/life balanced non negotiable!
Linda liked nothing more than being out on the Dance Floor
with her long time friend Wendy doing the « Jive ». She
enjoyed Karaoke, even having her own machine so she could practice at
home.
Linda was quite competitive and enjoyed bowling, washer toss,
Bingo, and going skating at the rink on Sunday Nights with her friend
Carol. the saying « Chance made us neighbours, Hearts made us
friends » was never more true. Linda and Carol shared many cups of
tea over long conversations at the kitchen table. Linda had quite a
sense of humour and an unforgettable laugh.
Linda’s true pleasure and most likely therapeutic act was
baking. She made the best homemade bread and doughnuts. We’ve all
missed enjoying them, almost as much as she has missed making them, as
she got older.
Linda had many jobs over the years. Starting with training as
a hairdresser in Amherst. She never did finish her training, but she
sure could give a beautiful perm, which she gave plenty of over the
years to family and friends.
She scooped blueberries every summer. Linda worked at
Stanfield’s, Oxford Frozen Foods for many years, Gordon’s Greenhouses,
Seagull Pewter in Pugwash, but her favourite by far was with High
Crest Nursing Home in Springhill as a Dietary Aid.
On Friday’s, Linda would do the baking for the week, making
cookies, squares, pies, you name it. She was proud of her job. She
enjoyed the friendships she made there with the staff and the
residents.
Besides her parents and husband, Linda was also predeceased
by in laws Lemert and Melvina (Pugsley) Brown of South
Brook.
Linda also lost her brother Ronnie suddenly when he was just
24. She never did get over losing her big brother.
Linda did everything she could to make sure her children had
what they needed or wanted, often going without herself. She loved her
family and was selfless.
Left to mourn Linda’s passing are; daughter Marg (Tim
Chapman); son Jamie (Amanda) Brown, her grandchildren that she was so
proud of, Ashley (Brian) Longshaw, Avery LeBlanc (Adam Rideout),
Kennedy (Jordan Legere), Brett (Grace Beaton), Jerry and Violet Brown;
sister in law Helen Smiley (Ivan Hachey); brother in law Robert
(Linda) Brown; sister in law Marjorie Slack; several cousins, two of
whom she though of as her brother and sister, Herman Weirich and
Winnie (Roger) MacCormack; several nieces and nephews; lifelong true
blue friends Brenda Fillmore Morin, Wendy O’Brien and Carol
Farrell.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the
A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane
Street, Springhill, (920 597 2361). In keeping with Linda’s request,
there will be no funeral. A private family viewing will take place,
followed by cremation. A private graveside service beside her husband
in the family cemetery in South Brook will then take
place.
We the family would like to thank ECL, for doing all they
could to make Mom’s last days as peaceful as possible; as well as
Marilyn Tower for her companionship. Also, thanks to the staff on the
Medical Floor of the CRHCC where Mom was a patient in July for their
exceptional care given to her.
Donations in Linda’s memory may be made to the East
Cumberland Lodge, the Brown Cemetery in South Brook, or an Animal
Charity of your choice.
Rest in peace Mom, no more suffering.

You are my sunshine, my only
sunshine.
You make me happy, when skies are
grey.
You’ll never know dear how much I love
you.
Please don’t take my sunshine
away.
