Letty also has many great nieces and great nephews; however, she was more of a grandmother to her two special girls: Kelsie Smith and Kylee Smith. Most recently, she became a great great aunt to Adaline Elsie Shirley Swim, born on July 11.
Letty was predeceased by her partner of many years, Leonard d’Eon, West Pubnico, her parents: Eldridge and Venetia (Jeffrey) Chetwynd, Woods Harbour, a brother, Sidney Jeffrey (Mary), sisters: Helen Chewynd, (Henry) Edna Symonds, (Ray) Elsie Goreham, (Wordlow), Norma Stoddard (Brad), Annie Symonds (Charles), Evelyn Scoville (Walter), Dorothy Cook (Ken), a niece: Rosemary (Goreham) Nickerson, nephews: Artie Smith, Richard MacAdams, Leslie Chetwynd, Henry Chetwynd, and Ross Hamilton.
Letty adored her family! She had a giving, loving, compassionate heart and she would do anything that she could for her family and friends. When her mother and sisters were very ill, she was there to help take care of them. She was like a second mother to her niece, Lee. When her great niece, Kylee, was born and spent weeks at the IWK Children’s Hospital, Letty took care of Kelsie. She even cared for the fur babies: Benji and Sophie. Whenever there was a need, Letty was there. She loved us and we loved her. You never had to guess what Letty was thinking because she would tell you!
Letty was employed by Dominion Textiles, in Yarmouth, for 23 years before moving back home to Woods Harbour. Prior to that, she worked as a telephone operator in Woods Harbour, Wagner’s Restaurant, Yarmouth, and in her sister’s store, Elsie’s Grocery, Woods Harbour.
In her younger years, Letty enjoyed bowling, and playing cards with her good friends, Bell and Philip Malone. Letty thoroughly enjoyed going to the Seniors Socials at the Woods Harbour Community Centre as well as the Kitchen Parties. When she moved to long term care, she really missed seeing friends and socializing. However, she sometimes attended the Woods Harbour Seniors Socials on Thursdays via the Bayside Home bus.
Letty will be honored on Sunday, September 12, 2:00 at a graveside service at the Greenwood Cemetery, Woods Harbour. If raining, it will be held at the Woods Harbour Calvary Baptist Church. Family and friends are welcome. There will be no visitation at the funeral home as per Letty’s request.
Donations in Letty’s memory may be made to the Woods Harbour Community Centre or Woods Harbour Calvary Baptist Church.
Family flowers are appreciated. Letty loved yellow roses.
Letty, you may be gone from our sight, but you will forever be in our hearts. Until we meet again…
