Walter H. St. Germaine
December 18, 1932 – August 16, 2021
After a very courageous battle with cancer, Walt passed away at the age of 88 in the Valleyview Hospital. He was a long-time resident of the Valleyview, AB area, where he enjoyed his lifetime passion of farming with his wife, Tammy. Horses and cattle were Walt’s livestock of choice, and he started his trail to being an authentic, old-time cowboy as a very young boy growing up in rural Saskatchewan. Born in Unity, SK, to Hillwood and Elvie St. Germain, Walt began his farm life using horses for every job ranging from plowing the fields to managing the cattle. This lifestyle allowed him to have many exciting future experiences, such as riding with the wildies west of Caroline, AB, entertaining a news crew with his horse Chick in the Longbranch Saloon and playing the part of a real cowboy with his brother Don in the Lonesome Dove TV series. In addition to being a cowboy, Walt was a skilled logger and truck driver as well. He also enjoyed meeting and shooting the “breeze” with people everywhere he went. Because he was such a happy, friendly, and likable man, there was seldom a face without a smile when meeting Walt.
Walt was predeceased by his mother and father, siblings Alvin, Ella, Pearl, Vera, Don, Herb, and his daughter Lorna. He is survived by his wife Tammy, sister Lois (Lloyd), children Lily (Bryan), Lela, Myrna, Holly (Ken), Leonard, Teresa (Randy), Shelley (Jack), Sadie (John), Jay (Nicole), and stepchildren Katelyn (Jason) and Dustin. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Walt will be dearly missed and forever held in the hearts of many. Ride on, cowboy, ride on!
The family would like to say thank you to everyone for their messages of condolences. A special thank you as well to Walt and Tammy’s wonderful friends and neighbors who have extended their time and kindness to help them over the last few years and during this time of loss.
